We have more than 300 registered volunteers with Sanman of which about 50 are active volunteers offering their time for activities like resource and funds mobilisation, helping with documentation at hospitals like Kidwai Cancer Institute and other hospitals in Bangalore.(see here for list of hospitals)  Our volunteers spend time with patients of all ages at the hospitals, coordinate with blood banks or blood donors for blood requirements, run activities at palliative care hospices like Karunashraya etc. They provide support for Cancer Detection camps by the Indian Cancer Society in semi urban and rural areas of Karnataka.

Patients who need palliative care typically suffer from physical, psychological, social, and spiritual pain. Hence we also try to counsel and provide pain and symptom management to the patients.

Our Palliative and curative care volunteers are from diverse backgrounds. Patients come from different parts of the country to get treatment in Bangalore.

If you would like to volunteer with Sanman, all we ask is two hours of your time in a week. Our Volunteering section has details on the kind of activities for which you can volunteer.

Volunteers’ Training in Palliative Care

If you would like to volunteer with Sanman, all we ask is two hours of your time in a week. Our Volunteering section has details on the kind of activities for which you can volunteer.

Palliative Care is wholistic care of people coping with a life limiting illness. 70% of needs of a person with a chronic, progressive and life limiting illness can be met by the community. Also, the worst disease nowadays is loneliness. A simple act of visiting, caring and being with them can make all the difference.

However, to be effective, it is important to have some basic training before getting involved in palliative care. This can be initially done as a one-hour sensitization programme. This can be followed by a 4-hour awareness programme and followed by a 12-hour skill building programme.

The training can also be done as a 16-hours programme over two days. On completing the 16-hrs training as per the WHO curriculum, you will be entitled to receive a National level certificate given by the Indian Association of Palliative Care (IAPC)

This 16-hours training is being conducted in Bangalore by ‘SANMAN’ an association of volunteers for Palliative care.

If you are interested in the next training session, please write to info.sanman@gmail.com and give your contact details. We will get in touch with you when we plan the next training session.
