Project Needle

One of the most common diseases needing palliative care is Cancer, the treatment of which can be costly depending on the stage of the disease.

During cancer treatment, a patient’s health care team often gives treatment into a vein. Chemotherapy, blood transfusion, antibiotics, and intravenous (IV) fluids are typically given this way. The healthcare team will probably also take blood samples. To make these treatments easier, a medical device called a catheter or needle port omega watch is used. The total number of needle ports used can work out to be rather expensive.

There are two types of needles that are used in cancer treatment.

  • Chemoport needles for administering Chemotherapy
  • Biopsy needles which cost Rs. 1000/- each

As part of our Palliative care efforts we have set up Project Needle where donors sign up to make a monthly contribution of x needles (This can range from 1 to n) This guarantees the availability of needles on a regular basis for needy patients and also allows you to donate for a specific item.
